A shop window has about three seconds to stop someone walking past. On a busy Lagos street that window is competing with danfos, hawkers and every other shopfront. These five set-ups work.
1. One hero, forward
Put one mannequin at the front of the window in your strongest outfit and set the rest back. A single clear figure reads from across the road; five equal figures read as clutter.
2. Group by colour, not by product
Dress a trio in one colour story, for example all white or all earth tones. Colour blocks are visible from a distance, and they make the window look styled rather than stocked.
3. Face the flow
Turn the hero mannequin slightly towards the direction most people walk from. A figure that "looks at" the passer-by gets noticed first.
4. Light the outfit, not the glass
Aim lights at the clothes from above and slightly in front. Avoid lights that bounce off the glass. Gloss mannequins catch light well in evening windows.
5. Change it every two weeks
Regular customers stop seeing a window that never changes. Swap outfits every two weeks and the pose or layout every month.
